The Masta Check Tech XT

I bought my Masta Check Tech XT from a good tack shop because I loved the look and feel of it. What a pity it didn't live up to all the advertising hype.

I actually bought it in July this year, as the price seemed good for what felt like a good quality turnout rug.

Here's what Masta have to say about the Masta Check Tech XT.

A revolutionary new fabric from Masta which offers extra strength, and improved performance in a variety of turnout rugs.

Made from 600 denier polyester fibers woven into a unique attenuating diagonal herringbone pattern. The inherent strength of the polyester combined with the unique weave results in a fabric, which is more than 30% stronger than our previous 600denier polyester ripstop fabric.

Check-Tech fabric is then coated with a high quality PU based compound which results in one of the highest levels of waterproofness and breathability of any turnout type fabric.
The fabric has an appealing distinctive look with superb durability and high resilience to the elements.

Well, super tough and breathable it may be, haven't been able to check that, but waterproof it certainly is not.

I put it on JC, my 16hh thoroughbred for the first time when it rained earlier this week, then went to muck-out his stable. Half an hour later I went to check he was okay before leaving the yard and I could clearly see the rug had leaked.

Only half an hour in light rain and the waterproof Masta Check Tech had leaked through, what a disappointment.

Sadly, as I'd had the rug so long before using it the tack shop wouldn't exchange it and Masta customer support are a complete waste of time.

The Masta Check Tech XT.. 0/10 for performance and I would definitely not recommend.
